Hello,

I will try to explain my question as clearly as possible hopefully someone will understand. I currently have a Motorola modem with built in router which I use to connect both wired and wireless devices.

If I get an old router and put it into repeater mode will I be able to a) connect wireless devices to it AND b) also run a CAT5 from one of its available ports to a wired device, say in my bedroom?

Meaning, can the repeater be used for both wireless, and wired functionality?

Solution
Repeater bridge will reduce the bandwidth because it acts as a typical repeater when using wireless. The radio has to do more. If you have loads of cash you could use a pair of ASUS AC routers, one as the main router and the second in media bridge mode with a 5GHz bridge and then use the 2.4GHz band for wireless connection to the media bridge unit.

If you can live without the wireless you could use client bridge mode, which allows the Ethernet connections but no wireless. Another option would be to add a wireless access point to a client bridge mode unit.

Excellent thank you! Just one follow up. Putting it in Bridge mode won't reduce throughput like I read repeater mode will, does it? Will I still get full wireless and wired speed to my connected devices?
