My desktop computer has 10gb of ram. Weird, I know. The setup is 2x 4gb ddr3 1600mhz ram + 1x 2gb ddr3 1600mhz ram. I heard that running 2 sticks of ram is more efficient, but is it faster? I don't do hardcore video editing, mostly gaming. Also, if I should take the 2gb one out, do I just take it out and it's done, or is there something more to it? Thanks in advance!

Solution
Depends on how your motherboard is utilizing.
Often if you have 2 sticks of ram, it is put in same color on the mobo, often 1+3 or 2+4. Can't remember the name for it, but I don't think it will matter for you. 10 gigs or 8 gigs, just stick with whatever you have now.

taking it out will make you run into less issues , if the system is running fine now you can leave it for the time being.

Also testing seems a very good option , try with the 2x4 only then try with all 10gb available and choose whatever suits you ;)

My recommendation is to test.

I stumbled on this old thread but i figured i would comment anyway. Its called dual channel. This is why your slots are more than likely 2 colors. Not all boards color code them though so I would check in your motherboard manual to see whats what with the DIMM. I hope this helps someone out.:D
