Can't boot up win7, after a gray screen freeze. Can't even start BIOS. The screen turns on, but goes black, right after "HDD found" message.

Tried swapping RAM's around, swapping the CMOS battery, and swapping the card itself, with the only difference being a display message "the current input timing is not supported by the monitor display".

My guess is that the video card is faulty, even if it is only 2yrs old, but can it be something else?

The card in question is Sapphire HD Radeon 7850 2GB
Motherboard ASUS M5A99X EVO
Monitor Dell U2312HM
PSU LC Power LC6550 V2.2 550W

Thanks, already tried that, that's what I meant by swapping the card, re seat is a much better description. :)

I just found in the mb manual POST State LEDs that indicate key components status during POST (power on self test). In my case, I have noticed a red light under Boot Device LED, does that mean that my hard drive is failing? That's very strange, because it recognizes the HDD as soon as I turn it on.

Ma father is an electrician, and we checked the voltage on the cable that goes to the HDD, and the values are as specified on the PSU, 3.34V, 5.08V, and 12.4V, so I doubt that it is the culprit, even though it is in Tier 4. The GPU cable voltage is also within specified values, 12.4V. Can't use hwmonitor because I can't boot the system, any other suggestions? How can I rule out the HDD?

Try a different hard drive...

But did your dad test the power supply during full load for prolonged period of time?

Hdd easily dies if the disk is spinning at 5400rpm then suddenly turns off and on again in matter of milliseconds..

Psu needs to provide continuous power that is also consistent at idle and load.

Lets just the Gpu's ok..

I'll try with a different hard drive. Thanks.

Good point, we could only test at idle.

Thank you again for your quick replies, I will update this thread so that maybe someone else might find a solution to a similar problem.
