I am currently using an Asus USB-N66 wireless adapter and a Linksys e1500 router. I am having problems with speed. My signal strength is full bars and I'm less than 30ft from the router. My internet allows up to 10mbps and is cable internet.

When I download any file, no matter how big or small, it basically lags my whole computer. Is there something wrong with the wireless adapter/router, or is this what I should expect out of the internet that I have?

Solution
An internet speed of 10 Mbps is on the slow side for a cable provider. The first step is to call your ISP, and ask what speed tier you are on, and confirm there are no issues with the line. Than, I would run Speedtest.net with your computer connected directly to the modem (sans router) via a wired connection. The speeds you get should be close to what your ISP is telling you. If these are no good, than reboot the computer and the modem, and if the problem persists, call your ISP.

If the above checks out, than the issue is your router or your adapter. You will need to make sure your router has the latest firmware, and your wifi adapter has the latest driver installed. You should also look for interference from surrounding...
