FPS drops in bf4
I am currently using a r9 270x and am getting some bad fps drops. I have tried both mantle and dx 11 and mantle seems to worse al though their both bad. I used to run a hd 7770 up till a few days ago and upgraded ( or what i thought would be a upgrade) to a msi r9 270x. I had seen reviews which said on 1080p ultra i would get 50+ fps. I currently play on 1366x768 so i assumed i would get extra performence however i get worse fps then i did when using a hd 7770. Whats even more strange is that my friend has a r7 260x and he gets 100x+ fps compared to my 50 fps on medium. Pls help.
PC SPECS:
Gigabyte 78lmt usb3 mobo
msi r9 270x
amd fx 4100
4gb ballistix ram
500w evga psu
1tb western digital black

The R9 270X is equivalent to an overclocked 7870 not 7770. The 280X is more like a 7970. But yes the memory issue looks like the primary issue here.

What OS is being used and is it 32bit or 64bit?

Maybe so but you are forgetting that the OS and all of your background applications also need space in that 4GB of memory. If you want to see how much memory is being used download a copy of Process Explorer from Microsofts technet website and run it after playing BF4 (actually play the game not just launch it) then click on view -> System information go into the memory tab. Peak Commit charge is the value you should be paying attention to this is in bytes and tells you how much memory your system wanted allocated during the heaviest portion of the current windows session Virtual and Physical.

I think cpu is the bad guy here.

But you could try a clean boot w/ MSCONFIG and run BF4. All memory will go for BF4. Look for any changes.

Good luck :)

Sorry mate: You will have a hard time ocing a fx-4100 w/ a Gigabyte 78lmt usb3 mobo. But you could try anyway. Just buy a CM 212 EVO cpu cooler and go ahead!
$30 CM 212 EVO is great: You certainly will use it for a long time in future endeavours :D

i think i have figured out that both ram and cpu are the problem. This what happens when i play bf4: cpu-90-100%, gpu 30-50%. Looks like i am getting a massive bottleneck from the cpu :(. Also my ram is already at 2gb usage even before i start the game so i think i will upgrade to 8gb. Once again thx for the help guys. Oh and btw, would a fx 6300 be a good cpu to go with my r9 270x?

Once again thx for the replies but i am on a tight budget and dont really have the money for intel unless there is a cheap cpu. If the fx 6300 isnt good enough then should i consider the fx 8350?

Update: An extra 4gb of ram running now in dual channel has done nothing. I am looking to get the 8320, would this perform alright on my mobo or would the mobo throttle it ???
