Moving a hard drive

I am going to build a new computer and would prefer to put the hard drive in my current PC in the new one. Will there be a problem with windows not recognizing new hardware not working or any other problems with transferring the hard drive? I have windows and all my files/games/etc. on this hard drive as it is my only one.

If you mean not buying a new drive and just plug in and use your current drive yes you will have many issues.

If the new MB is considerably different from the old MB, you probably won't be able to boot to Win. And if your copy of Win is an OEM, it will require you to re-activate to make it legal.

New install is highly recommended, if not required.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't
Sometimes it works 'a little bit'.

Clean install on the new hardware is the best way forward.
