I've managed to blow two power supplies through intense gaming (one was a CiT 500W, the other an Alpine 600W) and I was wondering if my new PSU should be good enough. I found a website that tells me I should be using a minimum of 550W however it has blown a 600W (uncertified 80+) yet I've read other posts on this forum that say a 500W is good enough for rigs way more powerful than mine.

I was wondering if a 500W EVGA 80+ certified would be good enough for my PC? Here are its specs:

Motherboard: ASUS M5A78L-M LX3
HDD: A regular Toshiba 7200 rpm 500 GB (can't remember model)
CPU: AMD FX4300 quad-core @ 3.8 GHz, usually OC'd to 4.5 GHz
GPU: Sapphire Dual-X R9 270X OC
RAM: 2 GB Crucial DDR3 1866 MHz + 4 GB Kingston DDR3 1333 MHz (I'm upgrading the Kingston soon to 1866 MHz)
OS: Windows 8 Pro

By "intense gaming" I mean things like Ultra Skyrim + mods, Shadow of Mordor, Battlefield 4, et cetera. I don't want to have to buy my games a second time for console just to play them, so I am looking for a good (but relatively cheap) PSU.

Well that happens when you use poor quality PSu with a gaming PC you are lucky that the PSu was the only thing to get burnt.

Go for xfx 550 or seasonic 520 spending a bit more on PSU is good .

Power Supply: XFX 550W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($54.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $54.99

And for EVGA G2,P2 and B2 the rest are average PSU and the 500 watt one i think its the B1 or W1 they are poor.

Woops, didn't realise I had posted two threads. Anyway, I'm on quite a narrow budget (around £40) so I was wondering if this would be a good PSU if I don't overclock the CPU:

EVGA 500B 500W Bronze 80+
40A on the 12V rail while the GPU only needs 24A and at 500W it should be fine, right? The only thing I OC is the CPU and if I stop OCing and leave it at stock (3.7 GHz) would this CPU be okay? My last power supplies both blew whilst OCing the CPU between 4.5 and 4.7 GHz with a 0.1V increase from stock*, so if I don't OC at all will this PSU be good enough? Again I'm on a tight budget so I can't afford high-end PSUs that will run it and give me room for like four crossfire setups.

* The "intense gaming" is most settings on high/very high, with a few lowered like texture quality. My CPU doesn't reach 100% usage and the GPU gets up to about 60*C
