Any time my PC goes to sleep, whether through being left idle or simply pressing "sleep," it lets off a little beep and then shuts down. When I turn the computer back on I get the "Windows did not shut down properly" message upon startup. I contacted Microsoft and they said it might be a problem with my RAM; I tried taking them out and putting them back in (what tech support suggested), but it did nothing. I got the info in the title from bluescreenview.

Solution

Well as you don't' wish to do the first two solutions, then yes you would go under Power Settings and set it NOT to sleep ever and that would 'technically' solve your problem, until something else goes wrong that you have no choice but try Choice 1 or 2.
DO NOT USE THE BUTTON to put it to sleep. Windows has had a very bad history with such 'sleep / hibernation' modes. Now this may / may not be fixable, but your best bet is to try the following to put your computer in a basic 'state' we can further discuss your issue with;

Download Speccy and copy and paste the first tab here to show us your specs

Download Malwarebytes and do a FULL (it is on quick as default) Scan, repeat till system is cleaned.

Remove any Antivirus you have (Microsoft Security Essentials doesn't work, and many whom have Norton keep finding it is interfering with program fully working by blocking different parts) and install either AVAST! or AVG from www.filehippo.com (both FREE and top rated successful protection by two independent labs). Again do a full scan till clean.

Run Windows Update and make sure ALL patches and OPTIONALs (except BING) are installed.

Download and run SlimDrivers to ensure all drivers are up to date.

Tell us the results of all this, 90% of the time these resolve the issues for people posting here.

I've already done everything you said regarding security and antiviruses. According to Speccy these are my specs:

Operating System
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
CPU
AMD Phenom II X4 965 29 °C
Deneb 45nm Technology
RAM
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (8-8-8-20)
Motherboard
ASRock 970 Extreme4 (CPUSocket) 26 °C
Graphics
Generic Non-PnP Monitor (1280x800@60Hz)
1023MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti (EVGA) 24 °C
Storage
465GB Seagate ST500DM002-1BD142 ATA Device (SATA) 24 °C
Optical Drives
ATAPI iHAS124 C ATA Device
Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio

And SlimDrivers found a few outdated drivers which I updated and restarted. I'm still having the same problem whenever I put my computer to sleep.

Yes I have. I still am having the same problem. You said "DO NOT USE THE BUTTON" to put it to sleep? Do you mean the power button or the Start "Sleep" button? Why?

Okay we have then eliminated all the 'usual' suspects. The reason I suggested the Malwarebytes and those AV (you didn't mention what you have, and have seen Norton / others cause the problems in the same circumstances) is there can be ways they are keeping files open and when Windows goes to save to Sleep/Hibernation mode causes the glitched bad save - error your getting.

At this point, your at a crux and have three options
1) Pursue it is a software potential problem and would require Windows to be reinstalled clean. Once a Clean install of Windows, Drivers, and hardware needed software (like the ASRock software add ons) test to see if the 'sleep' still happens. Wipe drive and install ONLY Windows and driver, NO ASROCK software, and test again. If it does then ...
2) Pursue it as a hardware issue. Having proven even to the maker that it isn't a Windows Glitch, you would now need to test each part of your hardware to resolve this. Breadboard is the most reliable method. This would involve completely taking the computer apart, every part. Place Mobo on wood board / cardboard box. Plug PSU ONLY to Mobo. Plug in GPU, CPU, and 1 stick of RAM only, connect HDD only, and power switch from case, power on and try sleep mode again? Do you get the same issue? then it is one of these parts connected. From here you would need to swap out the RAM, see if both do the same thing, then try a new RAM and see if it still does it. Swap HDD with another, reinstall Windows, Drivers and ASROCK software, again test. Swap GPU, and test.
By this point you eliminated RAM, HDD and GPU leaving the PSU not 'powering' things correctly, CPU/Mobo faulting.
3) back to what I said, DO NOT use the button, either quick press of the power button or evoking START>Sleep mode.

I'm not sure what Kevin Spacey has to do with this, but I'll keep that in mind.

So should I only allow my computer to go to sleep through idling, or should I just never have my computer go to sleep? I guess that would technically solve my problem.
