Same cables, slightly different PSUs

Hello!

Just a little question: Is it possible to use the same cables on two different PSUs from the same brand (and almost the same model)?

Example: Using a Corsair HX 850W 's cables with a Corsair HX 750W.

Solution
Your fine because the sleeved sets are the same for both the HX 850w and HX 750w.

I would like to say yes but its more of a do it at your own risk.... I use Silverstone PSU and they changed their pin outs from the PSU on models,

If you want to try it get a volt meter and check the voltage on the cables before plugging it into your computer.

If your going to use cables from the old PSU with the new one, take the 24 pin and jump it so the PSU will turn on then check the voltage on the cables just to make sure. Just because the cable fits does not mean that they didn't change where the voltage comes out on the plug.

I know for a fact Silverstone changed there PCI-e plugs from model to model and using and old cable would have put 12v on the ground to a video card. Im not saying corsair changed the pin out on the PSU but you never know.

Did you know that you can plug an 8 pin PCI-e cable into an 8pin cpu power connecter, guess what it wont boot up a computer like that, so your "If the socket at the psu end is identical then the cable will work" actually does not work.

If you have an 8 pin pci-e connector the cable its attached to will handle the wattage required . If the connector at the psu end is identical it works

If you have an 8 pin EPS connector at the end of the cable the cable is fine , and it works if the connector at the psu is identical

That an 8 pin EPS plug and an 8 pin pci-e power plug are keyed differently and could only be inserted into they wrong kind of socket with some force .
But that does not affect the psu end of the connector at all

In the case of the Corsair HX 850W and the HX 750W, the sockets are identical:

HX 850W: http://www.pcper.com/files/imagecache/article_max_width/review/2012-07-31/3a-HX850.jpg
HX 750W: http://www.roxonline.com.br/imagens/roxonline.com.br/produtos/Hardware/FontesATX/CorsairHX750/03.jpg

I'm currently using a HX 850W and I have an unused HX 750W at home, so I'm curious if I can switch between PSU's (in case something bad happens someday) without having to replace all the cables, just the box thing.

Thank you!

Looks like the "Generation 2" of the HX 850w and HX 750w indeed use the same cables. Would it be the same with the "Generation 1" ones?
