I built a new PC. Z97x Mobo, GTX 970, 16 RAM....
At this point everything is fine...BUT now I am closing up the case..I slide in POWER SUPPLY (600 watt Corsair) and screw it into case...NOW ITS DEAD.......

SO..I take it back..get a new one...plug it in....(outside of case) working fine...

slide in back in case..screw it into case...DEAD AGAIN!!!!

UGH!!

Obviously..a short of some kind...And forgive the question if it is stupid..But what the heck do I do???? How is placeing a few small screws into the PSU shorting it out????....I dont see any connections touching....

please help!

Do you happen to have an improperly placed standoff somewhere? It could be that your case isn't actually at ground until you have the PSU screwed in and their housings are joined so when you start up the computer with the PSU outside the case you have a short to the case from some component but since the case isn't yet grounded its not a short to ground and doesn't trip SCP on the PSU.

Start by simplifying what you have in the system, you won't have a display but if it still does that when you don't have a GPU or any hard drives connected you know its got to be something in the interaction between the case, motherboard, and PSU.
