Would these be an allright combo if I don't plan on overclocking? It's significantly cheaper than the ASUS ROG boards, and I don't think I'm going to be tinkering with my BIOS enough to take advantage of all the sexy features ROG boards supposedly have. I'm considering the Gaming 5 at minimum because it can do SLI, but even the Gaming 3 without SLI wouldn't be bad, I love single-card solutions anyway. Anyway, is there anything really great I'm missing if I go with an MSI Gaming Z97 instead of ASUS ROG?

No, then it just comes down to features and price.

If you don't want to overclock then get a h97 board + an non "k" i7 or xeon with HT.

Save the money towards a better gpu.

The "non-K" i7-4790 has a base clock of 3.6GHz. The i7-4790K has a base clock of 4.0 GHz; that's an additional 400MHz for a tiny price premium.

Aside from overclocking potential, and maybe better support for multi-GPU setups, is there any other upside to the Z97 chipset over the H97?
