I need a build that can run heavily modded minecraft at great fps and can also play music or a video on a secon monitor while I am playing. I hope you guys can come up with something. Specify why the CPU u are choosing is better than its rival. (AMD VS INTEL)

Solution
Smor's last sentance is the reason i bought a 4790k. I don't even OC. For $100 more it was worth it to me to get hyper threading, higher clock speeds, and more l3 cache. This wouldn't make any sense with a 4690/k because they have the same clock speeds. This isnt the same story as the 4790 and 4790k. Right now Intel is running away with the best options for basically all budget ranges. Why? Because the 6300 and 4160 are basically the same in benchmarks. 4160 wins because it has a FAR better upgrade path for the future. Then higher budget ranges: Intel simply can't get touched. the AMD 9590 is $300 and the 4690k is $250. The 4690k still kick the 9590 in the pants for game performance. Why? Because AMD sells these things in hopes that...

used larger r300 case in this build...full size mb.

we try here to post both amd and intel builds for a same $$$ compassion. at one point the amd build the parts were a lot cheaper then intel and you got about the same bang for the buck for the build. with any cpu dont fall into the marking scam of intel and amd. that the top number chips is the best. when cpu chips are made there made on a larger wafer and then qa tested. there then binned on the speed that there stable at. so a 4460 inside is the same as the 4690. it just wont run stable at the same speed. this is where intel also makes a lot of money from new builders. look at two i5 when that runs at 3.1 then other 3.4 or 3.8. in the real world that .7 percent in clock speed does not matter you may in game get one or two more fps if your lucky. but your paying a lot more some times for those higher speed cpu. the other gotcha is k vs no k cpu. most people are not going to over clock there cpu. if your not going to over clock you can buy the non k cpu and save some money. intel again has the consumer paying a little more for the cpu if you want the cpu unlocked to be over clocked. if you do over clock your cpu and dont have the extra insurance intel wont replace your cpu under warranty.

Build I suggest:

Since he's playing Minecraft, I don't think a GTX 970 will be needed, although it depends what mods he's adding.
