is i7 3770 bottleneck for 120/144fps gaming?

probably very stupid question, but i need to ask, i play bf4 on benq xl2420z, with gtx 980 from gigabyte, and it has problems to maintain 120/144fps in game , sometimes fps go down to 80/90 fps, i play at 1080p with medium or high preset, so question is, is 3770 bottlenecking or simply 1 gpu is not enough to maintain this high fps in bf4 ?

Im not sure he is expecting too much. With my 3570k and gtx 970 I get 100-120fps on mixed high and ultra settings with 2x AA. With his 980 He should easily hit 120fps on the high preset.

I agree I don't see much of a difference past 90 but I would like to get more if I had a 980.

OP are you playing with any AA? What is the resolution scale set too? What maps are you seeing these dips? All of these can determine fps.

i play at 1920*1080, high preset ( no option changed ), i play 64player conquest maps only, those fps drops to 80/90 r on every map i think, only in certain areas of the map here and there ,i can maintain those 120fps pretty much 90% of the round time, so it is ok if it drops here and there, i guess i am just spoilt brat who wants everything 110% perfect :)

It might just be that it those intense moments it drops which usually happens and is generally ok. Just make sure that resolution scale is set to 100% because when i first started the game with my 970 the scale was automatically set higher to like 150%. But other than that fps drops are very normal so as long as you're getting 120fps most of the time I wouldn't worry.

What is your fps on Ultra with 4x msaa?

use the bf4 frame time analyzer to properly log your fps. and create a bf4.cfg file and at least disable motion blur and other crap vegetation that just blocks your view of the opposing player. otherwise i would run some benchmarks like 3dmark or unigine valley and make sure your scoring near where others with similar setups are. this way you can narrow down if there are driver conflicts or a random rouge program stealing horsepower.

i cant post link, i am not home, but i remember that i made 12500 score on fire strike, i guess it is ok
i dont know what fps i can get on ultra, but all benchmarks say that average fps on ultra at 1080p is around 80, so no point to test it, if u really want me to test it, i will, but i ll be home at my pc at wednesday evening, not sooner
thanks for the answers, i was 99% sure i wasjust expecting too much, i just needed to ask, i hope more games will take advantage of hyperthreading in future, so the 3770 is not a waste with the beast gtx 980 :)

8.1, no core is parked ( ctrl+alt+del, cpu section, none of 8 cores displayed have the word "Parked" above their boxes ), hyperthreading enabled in bios
there should be nothing wrong with my pc, it runs fine, ocasional fps drop r fine( as u said ), there r ppl playing at 30fps cause of bad hardware and i cry here when i drop few fps under 144/120 :)
