Hello,
I recently purchased an MSI gtx 970 to replace my 2 year old evga 670. These are my current system specs:

MSI GTX 970
Intel i3 2120 with stock cooler
samsung 256gb SSD
ASUS p8z77-v Motherboard
500gb HHD
Corsair 2x4 (8gb) of 1333 RAM
Corsair 550 watt power supply
Corsair 550D case

So the problem is when I bought the 970 I expected around 90fps on BF4 from the benchmarks I watched, but to my dismay only got around 40-60fps. I went on CSGO and only got about 140fps.
I know about cpu bottlenecking, but would getting an i5 make much of a difference on all the games that I play including single player. I know that 60 fps+ is fine I just want to be future proofing my pc. I currently have two monitors plugged in; 24 inch Samsung 1920x1200 and a 19 inch 1200x1080 I only game on the 24 inch one obviously, but would having two monitors make a difference? Would getting a bigger power supply help, or a new motherboard. Also bear in mind that my CPU only lets me use pci 2.0, ubt my card is 3.0. If I got an i5 I could use 3.0, but would it make a difference? Could it be an issue with using the stock cooler.

Any suggestions on what could be the problem and how to solve it?
Thanks. Please help :(

I would say the cpu is holding back the GTX 970 in cpu intensive games. You may want to consider getting an i5 3570k. This will allow you have the option to overclock after getting an aftermarket cpu cooler since you have a Z77 motherboard.

What corsair model psu do you have? What series is it in?

The PSU shouldn't be a problem in this case.
Dual cores i3 are weaker in BF4 especially in multiplayer.Take note that in benchmarks, the setups normally use an enthusiast cpu like on platform 2011 or 2011 v3 and they are overlocked sometimes. Don't assume your gpu will perform the same as the benchmarks when you have different pc setups.

I not sure about that game but i believe any game built using source engine is mostly CPU intensive. But you already have 140fps, I don't see the problem when you have over 100fps let alone 60fps.

This thing about Youtube videos about "benchmarks " of BF4 is that no video is the same really. You can't exactly replicate that video to see if you can get the same results. There too many variables that can change the fps like random explosions, how many people are on the screen, how many objects are on the map, what map is played on.
Just because there is one video showing their results doesn't mean you should get that same results. It is not a true benchmark.

To your question of buying a i5 3570k is a good choice. It allows you to have overclocking if you choose to do so once getting an aftermarket cpu cooler, no the stock cooler.

The card is performing fine, its the other things in your system. You simply cannot expect a system with an i3 to perform the same as a system with a 5960x. The difference between pcie 2 and 3 will be marginal as the card wont saturate the bus

Which is why you see people who actually know what they are doing doing the same playthrough on every game every time with each card.

But not many but I digress. To the OP, if you have another pc or a willing friend to allow you to test your gpu in their system to see the results. If you/they have the time
