New drive not recognized in BIOS

I came home to my 5 year old HDD suddenly having 80 bad sectors according to HDD Sentinel. I didn't think this was a huge problem because everything is backed up and I have a new WD HDD that I bought about a year ago (always meant to install it...), but when I plugged it in to the same place my old HDD was, I found that not only did the OS install not recognize it, it wasn't showing up in my BIOS, either. Initially, I thought I might need to partition it, but I can't even find it. Does this mean it's failed?

I read something about maybe needing drivers for my motherboard, but it seems strange to me that other devices (a friend's external hdd, the flashdrive, my old hdd) all show up with no trouble on the BIOS and this one WD does not. If anyone has any advice (should I just RMA the drive?) I'd appreciate it. As it is, I'd like to figure this out before this HDD gives out on me ... 130 bad sectors today makes me pretty nervous.

Another problem: My computer is a prebuilt dell studio XPS 435T (I know. It was a gift.) so I don't have a motherboard manual to consult, something that I see recommended a lot.
My specs:
Motherboard: "DELL Inc. 0X501H" BIOS says it's vA15, 2/4/2010.
Old HDD: ST31000528AS
New, unrecognized HDD: WD1002FAEX
Running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit.
BIOS is set to ACHI, also.

Sorry if I didn't provide enough info -- never done this before.
