hi
i just want to know that is there any different type of sata ports for optical drives or hdd or can we use any cables for them. (cables i meant with Power cables with psu)
The power cables on the power supply for the HDDs and Optical drivers are the same(L shaped power). For older systems that still use IDE, the power cable is different.
IDE ribbon cables used to be used for dvd and hdd parts, but they are obsolete today.
Today, sata cables for power and signals are the standard.
Only the sata data cable for a high speed ssd might benefit from being of top quality.
i have a system with an old sata hdd and now i want to change my PSU but idk if it will b compatible with hdd and optical drive + motherboard or not. can u please help me buddy. i m not a pro at computers so...
i can show u what I've got there
Modern psu's will have all the sata power connectors you need.
In addition, there will be at least some leads with molex adapters for older dvd and hdd drives.
If you are missing anything, there are cheap adapters for each.
If you change your psu, buy only a quality unit.
Here is a list to help with that: https://community.newegg.com/eggxpert/computer_hardware/f/135081/t/45344.aspx?Redirected=true
Can you be more explicit on what you need to connect?
Why do you want to change your psu?
honestly i am gonna buy Asus GTX 760 but i have an old PC as i told u and it has only 300W power supply which i know ain't gonna work with that GPU.
now the thing is i want to upgrade my PSU to Corsair or CM (550W) but i m not sure if the power cable plugs will fit into my current Optical drive (LG DVD BURNER) and HDD (sata 360 gb dont know the brand)
i have intel Dual coreE5500 @2.8GHz and Gigabyte ga g31m es2l motherboard
i did and the current power cable to HDD says Serial ATA and the Optical drive has an L shaped cable same as of HDD with a clip on it and they have 2 more cables plugged into motherboard on SATA II slots.
is it a sign for me to relax ?
