Can your gpu freeze

So when your computer freezes it's because of other hardware not your gpu because I'm building my new rig and everything is new but my gpu I'm still keeping I just put in new thermal paste inside the gpu so am I fine? Can I still use my gpu for my new built? My old rig was freezes during browsing and gaming so you think my gpu is still saved?
That's exactly what happened with one of my PCs. The kid using it to play games was resetting it several times a day and when I asked him why he did that, he said that it was frozen. I replaced the GPU with an identical one and it resolved the issue.
