I am upgrading from the AMD athlon x4 750k, with an MSI A78M-E35, to the Intel Pentium G3258, with the MSI H97M-G43. How would I go about doing this without screwing up all of my files? I already know that once I do the upgrade, I will have to activate Windows over the phone. So, also, how do I prepare my computer to upgrade the motherboard, and what do I do once I've completed the new motherboard installation?

EDIT: I actually didn't have to do anything. Just install the new motherboard and it worked! I did ave to reactivate windows (it was free though!).

make a full backup of your drive then make a backup of your important files.
Write down all your account names and their passwords, activation keys for all your software, network passwords (esp if you use wireless).

and then plan on doing a full windows re-install. going from amd to intel isn't going to work easily but you can give it a try. using the out of box experience (oobe) method will probably be your best chance of success. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/135077-windows-7-installation-transfer-new-computer.html
