My buddy tried his first PC build and had issues. He put it together without mat/bracelet before telling me about his problem. *sigh* He put everything together, and it appears to be getting power to all components, but it wont post. His chassis (Corsair 600T) has built in stand-offs which was a huge plus because he didn't know what stand-off are. Because of that, I hoped it was his video card ( an old one he pulled from his previous rig) that had gone bad and so we just weren't getting any signal to the monitor. He brought it over, we swapped out video cards and made sure he had all the proper power connections firmly attached. I still can't get this thing to POST and at this point I'm assuming that its his MoBo. Any help/advice/suggestions would be welcome. Thanks. Here are the specs:

Precessor: Intel core i7 3970k
MoBo: Asus Rampage IV Extreme
Power Supply: Corsair AX 1200i
Ram: Corsair 2400 (2x16bg sticks)
Graphics Card: New out of the box GeForce GTX 770
SSD: Samsungh 500gb SSD

Solution
Update the BIOS using BIOS flashback. The mobo needs BIOS 2105 to support that CPU

Core i7-3970X Extreme Edition(3.5G,L3:15M,6C,HT,150W,rev.C2) ALL 2105

http://www.asus.com/nz/Motherboards/RAMPAGE_IV_EXTREME/HelpDesk_Download/

I would say the CPU is 3970X not K. There is no K listed under CPU for this mobo

Nope, no codes. I was reading that this is a semi-common problem with these boards and that you may need to flash the BIOS to an updated version, unfortunately i can't find the proper update. When i check the ASUS site, it has updates for

X99-DELUXE
X99-S
X99-PRO
X99-A
RAMPAGE V EXTREME
BIOS version
0904 or later
0904 or later
0401 or later
0402 or later
0603 or later

, but no Rampage IV... Unfortunately the customer service is closed today and I have scoured the site to no avail.

This is indeed a semi-common problem with the RIVE. I have one myself and it has a few boot issues from time to time.

The diagnostic LED on the board will be your best friend for figuring out where it gets stuck. If the firmware revision is simply so old that it doesn't support the 3970x (it should still work, just not fully) you can update it without having the CPU installed through the USB Flashback method.

My board has a strange room-temperature cold bug. It will refuse to boot below about 25 degrees. I leave it on (while hung) for a few minutes and then restart it.
