I currently have a desktop with the cpu and gpu in a custom water cooling loop. (one radiator)
i7 4770k oc 4ghz
gtx 680 4gb
One 1tb hard drive
Maximus VI extreme Motherboard
Tx 850m power supply
16gb ram 1866mhz

I recently was offered Two r9 290x's (reference cooler =/ ) for a very good price. I would love to upgrade to them, but I want to make sure I have a good enough power supply first. So is my power supply good enough to run two R9 290X's? Along with all the rest of my computers specs of course. Also, does my power supply have enough connectors?

Also, my computer has a custom water cooling loop. But I didn't make the loop myself. So I have no idea how I would remove the gtx 680. How hard would that be to do? I was thinking of sticking the gtx 680 in a secondary (possibly mini itx) build later? The problem is, since I bought this computer off craigslist. I don't have a normal cooler, only the water block. Is there any specific cooler I should look for to replace the waterblock? I'm not looking for the best cooling, when I stick it in a secondary build I won't be overclocking. So I'm honestly looking for it to be as cheap as possible while not overheating.

Whoops! I actually didn't mean to select you as best answer. Whatever lol. From what I saw online, two r9 290x's should be fine on a 850w power supply. But I started my own thread to make sure. Are you sure that they can't run on an 850w power supply? Supposedly they use a max of 290w each. (saw that somewhere, not sure if true.)

Fair enough. Now that I look back at the thread I was looking at before. The guy was asking about a mining setup. So the rest of his components were all very low power. Thanks for the help! I guess i'll just have to upgrade my power supply if I do this =/.

Honestly I know a friend who has a 4770k at 4.5ghz and 2 r9 290's Overclocked to 1050/1350 and he is running perfectly fine on an AX-850w.
I have an HX-850w, and am ready to get a second 290 soon, and I don't think anything more than 850w is needed.
To give you an idea, my PSU's fan spins up at about 500w, and most days it hardly even starts.

Wattage isn't everything, amperage, and continuous wattage on the 12v rail are what matter.
He won't need 1000w...

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:
http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/radeon-r9-290x-crossfire-vs-sli-review-benchmarks,4.html
"AMD Radeon R9 290X - On your average system the card requires you to have a 550~600 Watt power supply unit.
AMD Radeon R9 290X Crossfire - On your average system the cards require you to have a 800 Watt power supply unit as minimum."
They even checked it on an Overkill system with a 3960x and all. My cpu at 4.4ghz never goes over 101w, and that is with EPU off so... addd another 100w for drives, ram, his watercooled, I doubt he will ever go over 800W.
