Hi all, sorry but I have spent quite a bit of time trying to figure this out myself and I finally decided to create an account here and ask a few questions... Thanks in advance for being patient with my rambling post.

1. What is the best airflow for my setup?

2. Between the 120mm water-cooled, and the 240mm water-cooled, which would be better?

3. Will the water-cooled system fit comfortably in the case, without blocking the top-mounted fan?

Here are the basics of my build:

HAF XB Evo
AMD FX-8350
M5A99FX
R9 280X
2x4 G.Skill
750W PSU
CM 212 EVO CPU fan
CM MegaFlow 200mm top-mounted fan
120mm fans in front x2 (stock)

The issue is that the CPU fan is maybe 6 or 7mm too high. When I put the top cover on, with the 200mm fan mounted (30mm high), the fan catches on the copper heatsinks on the CM 212 CPU fan. I looked into getting a different fan, and I found a 200mm x 20mm fan which would fit but I would need to create four holes for the fan because the current configuration does not match up with the fan's holes at all.

I would rather keep everything as simple as possible, and avoid drilling any holes or modifying the case. So my plan is to replace the CPU cooler with a water-cooled one.

I have spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out what makes the most sense logically. I drew it out but I am still pretty confused with regards to how I should direct airflow. Please take a look at what I managed to draw, and let me know whether either configuration makes sense and if I should make adjustments.

I am on the fence about whether to go for the 120mm or 240mm system. I would rather just go for 240mm even though my computer is cool enough as-is. It saves me from having to invest in, and install a new fan months down the road when I finally get enough money for a little bit of crossfire action.

From the looks of it, I could mount the 240mm system on the front, in place of the two 120mm stock fans currently there? Or leave the stock fans there, and mount the 240mm system inside the case, and use the 120mm stock fans to aid with exhaust?

If anyone has some advice on anything above, let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My biggest concern, and I am unsure whether anyone has gone through this specific situation, is if the water-cooled system will fit comfortably in the case and not obstruct the top-mounted fan. If necessary, I can provide measurements just let me know, thanks!

That top fan is meant to be exhaust your sort of going against nature...heat rise naturally so exhausting from the top with the 200mm is the best option...just get two high cfm fans for front intake.

Also, I ended up ordering the Corsair H100i... Anyone in the market for a new Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, let me know. Especially if you live in the northern California area so you wouldn't have to pay for shipping.
