Onboard video for motherboard, plz explain

hi im building my first gaming pc, and my mother board has onboard video, but my cpu doesnt have integrated graphics, does that mean ill need a gpu(which i am gettin later) or does the motherboard automatically work the graphics for the gpu and cpu like integrated graphics?

what is your motherboard? what is your processor? amd fx? intel xeon?

if your processor doesn't have integrated graphics then you will need a video card to output a signal to a monitor.
