Ok, so I have a Gigabyte 970A-UD3 revision 1.2, all my components are sitting inside a new Fractal Design Define R4 Windowed. Let me get to my question.
I upgraded my His 7770 Ghz GPU to an MSI Radeon R9 270 because it was on sale. So right now my 7770 is sitting around unused.
My question is, can I use them both together in my pc for two monitors? I should clarify that this is NOT A CROSSFIRE. I have no intention due to the large gap difference. Also because it isnt possible.
So, can i use both these cards together in my system for two monitors, and if possible, use both for two screen games? Like Battlefield 3 for example. Also, will they both get enough cooling? As well as power? Remember, I dont have a side vent. Also, my PSU is a 630 watt dual gpu ready PSU. Thanks for the responses! Apologies for poor english.

I think you misunderstood me as I am not saying the opposite of them, I am saying the same thing. It is correct that it will work. When I say the second gpu does nothing, it's not it that it doesn't work but that it does no processing. You can even mix nvidia, intel and amd. It's only driving the other monitor so this is a waste of power since the primary gpu is still doing all the processing. The second is merely a passthrough. The primary is simply which gpu is connected to the main monitor in windows. I know this all too well as I have mixed plenty of card combinations. Even the pc I am on now does this for more monitors although it's intel and nvidia.

Those gpus use the same driver so there is nothing to install.
You can use two cards, one for each monitor, though, you'll have to tell each monitor what to do, I think, I've never done it before, but what I mean is, you can have a website on one monitor and a game on the other. I don't think the game will take both monitors. Give it a try, plus, that PSU should be able to push both cards, just make sure you have all the power connected to it. The wattage of the PSU doesn't matter so much as the quality, a 630 quality PSU will drive both NPs.

I understand what you are saying. But a lot of people have been saying the opposite (on other forums, websites, etc); stating that it will work for just multiple monitors, but will not work with crossfire/SLI. Somebody has even combined an Nvidia GTX 660 with an Nvidia 8600 GTS, for the purpose of three monitors. I have no intention of just ignoring your reply to me, as it is helpful to me, but Im confused essentially. I do sincerely apologize.

So would the AMD Catalyst driver recognize the GPU if the components are configured properly?

You may have to install a couple different drivers depending on the cards, but ya, it'll treat it like two separate cards.

Did not know that the second card only acted like a pass through. Learn something new every day though. Thank'ems.

Ok! Thanks for the clarification! I'll find some other way to manage two monitors without taxing my system to much or benching too much heat. Thank you both for your answers!

Using 2 monitors shouldn't be taxing unless you actually have something else running that's taxing.

I should mention there are instances when it actually does something. Physx would be the only one for gaming but when using certain software there is an option to choose which gpu. I can only think of miners, scientific stuff and gpu renderers right now but I feel like I'm forgetting something.
