Hello.

I bought my Lenovo Y510p exactly a year ago and I have a question about temperatures.

I downloaded hard drive sentinel and it shows that the temperature for my main hardrive is 33 C. However, for the 24gb ssd it says 44 C. It is sitting idle with nothing running, only google chrome. Is this an okay temperature? what is a temperature that is dangerous to the hard drive? (I don't physically feel the hotness).

EDIT: It was even went up to 50 C while just sitting. I was not runnning anything.

Also, the health for the ssd is at 80%. The performance is 100%.

It is a caching 24gb ssd. Could this be replaced? Along with the HDD I have to a SSD?

Here is a pic:

EDIT: After playing CS GO for 30 mins my ssd is at 52C!!! The HDD is 35C. Plesae help!

Thanks.

Try using the program Hardwaremonitor, it gives you a temp (100-x) which means that it...

Have you cleaned dust from your laptop?
I'd recommend to carefully open the laptop case and use a vacuum cleaner or compressed air to clean out dust.
Just remember to watch out for static electricity.

My guess is that it is a sensor error or you just are experiencing problems with a bad SSD.

Either way I would recommend buying a new SSD if you can. New 120GB SSDs can be found for under $70 now a days which may be a good idea if you are worried about the SSD crashing.

Otherwise there is nothing you can do about it but hope it doesn't die. The good thing is that it is a caching drive so its not a huge deal if it dies.

I have a three year warranty with Lenovo for my y510p so I don't want to change the ssd out. Right now the currently temperature of me just browsing on chrome is 43C. So I guess until it crashes I won't send it in.

Try using the program Hardwaremonitor, it gives you a temp (100-x) which means that it shows my "temp" as 70C when it is really 100-70=30. Anyways, the program could be more accurate. If you are getting the same temps, then all you can really do is wait. SSD's should be fine running around 50C, its not common, but they can handle it.

Also, like I said earlier, if the SSD is of good quality then it should be fine, and if not you will be fine with the warranty.

That is a great SSD. Not 100% sure about the brand, but it really looks good on paper and the price is comparable to other (and slower) competitors. It should handle your entire OS with no problems and make the whole experience much snappier.

Ahh, its fine ;) However, do my CPU temps look normal aswell? http://oi61.tinypic.com/5vnqdg.jpg

Thanks for all the help, I am going to call Lenovo and ask them about the issue, seeing as I have premium warranty that apparently was a deal when it was bought as a gift for me, so that's a plus.

Also, the overall health for the caching SSD is at 80% so I believe this could be a factor. Plus, when using a dust removal script and setting the fans at 100% the SSD temp falls down to 36-38C. Funny that the support forums at Lenovo do not reply as fast as toms hardware.

Your CPU temps are on the higher side, but nothing too bad. I doubt that they will replace the unit, but it is worth the shot, especially with the premium warranty.

They MIGHT (it's a big might). But I think you have to have problems that noticeably effect the overall performance before they will replace it.

Okay, so basically it has to fail to send it in.

Yes, that would be the most reasonable assumption. It should be fine though. You can always upgrade if/when it fails. I wouldnt worry about it too much.
