Hi everyone, im looking at upgrading my ram by either adding more or buying a new set. First off my motherboard is a gigabyte ma770t-ud3p (revision 1) and by cpu at the moment is an athlon ii x2 270, i do have a Phenom ii x3 270be on the way. At the moment i have two sticks of 2gb ddr3 kingston ram (im assuming its just the standard 1333mhz type of ram) and what im wanting to do in the future is upgrade my ram but im not sure if just any type of ddr3 ram will work, for instance if id like 8gb of ram then would i just have to buy two more sticks of the exact same 2gb ram i have already, or is it more suitable to replace my ram with two 4gb sticks or even just run one 8gb stick?

Its if your motherboard would support it. If your motherboard supports 8 gb of ram it will work. I would buy two more sticks if your board supports quad channel memory or dual channel memory. If not, just buy the 8 gb so you have more slots open.

Hello @OldmanDers

Gigabye GA-MA770T-UD3P supports upto 16GB of memory. It has 4 slots and max per slot is 4GB. For 8GB upgrade you can either add two 2GB modules or go with two 4GB modules and remove the 2GB modules that is currently installed in your system. My suggestion would be to go with the latter choice but instead of removing the 2GB modules you can install it along with the 4GB modules, totalling it to 12GB. The reason I suggest to go with two 4GB is that in case you want to upgrade in the future, you will have to replace all the memory; that is if you add another set of 2GB modules to the existing.

Source : Gigabyte. You can find the memory here - Amazon, Newegg, Kingston, bestbuy or or crucial etc.

P.S - You need a 64Bit OS (windows) to install above 4GB of memory.
