Hi all,
I use an older rig (Q6600 with 4 GB ram and a 8800 GTS 512) as an HTPC. The video card died a year or so ago, but I was able to get another year of life out of it by using the oven trick. Unfortunately, it's dying again (random shutoffs and won't turn back on at times).
I threw in an older PCI-E 5800 card using beta Vista 64-bit drivers on the Win7 system (only drivers available). When testing, the computer blue screened after choppily playing an HD YouTube video.
Since one card is dying, and the other not very compatible with Win7 64-bit, I'm thinking it's just best to buy a new card at this point.
I was looking at the GT 610 as a possible option. On paper, it appears to be overall much less powerful than the 8800 GTS, but it doesn't use as much energy and would only cost ~$30 after MIR. Is this card sufficient for running 1080P video without choppiness and a bit of a buffer?
If not, is there another card I should spend a bit more on to make sure I have adequate performance?
Thank you!
