hey guys i have a weird problem so every time i would play far cry 3 my comp would randomly shut off and reboot. sometimes it would let me play for 1 to 2 hrs then randomly reboots. doesn't happen with any other games. played borderland prequel with no issue what so ever.

no overclock whatsoever
temps on the gpu are 82 and 78 degrees.

p.s sometimes far cry 3 doesn't even load. i bough the game from steam

cpu 3930k
gpu gtx asus 780ti x2 sli
asus rampage iv black edition
32gb ram
antec high current pro 1300w
1 tb sdd
custom water loop cpu cooling

I don't think it's a heat issue if it just reboots on its own right away. More likely heat makes it shut off and stay off for a little while, until the excess dissipates and it's safe to run again. Then gives you a series of error beeps upon reboot.

Sounds more to me like a possible power or RAM issue where it only hits the critical fail point on that one game. I'm guessing you have 4x8GB sticks of RAM, right? What are the specs, and do you have them running on auto settings or set manually?

A software conflict is another possibility, though more remote. I'd expect a BSOD or a random hang, not a sudden restart.

what do you mean by software conflict?

Every once in a while, you'll get a driver that trips over the antivirus, a Windows hangup from leftover traces of programs in the registry, that kind of thing. Usually that kind of thing results in freezing or a BSOD though, not a hard restart.

One thing that does come up after a cursory search is that a ton of people have had problems with Far Cry 3 on SLI or Crossfire setups. Apparently, it just is not optimized well for multiple cards ... some people reporting that it crashes after every multiplayer match, others saying that one card will run at max and the other at 0%. I missed that you were running SLI the first time, so I wonder if that has something to do with it. The obvious way to check would be to temporarily remove one of the GPUs, but as a long-term solution, that would defeat the point of an SLI system.

so i tried playing far cry 3 today again and the problem is back. my computer just shuts off for about 10 mins before it restarted it self. as soon as it restarted i was able to play far cry 3 on window mode with no problem, i try to switch it to full screen and it won't allowed me. it would give me the message saying "would you like to keep this setting" and i click yes but it doesn't go on to full screen. after a few trys i was able to set it to full screen and boom! it shuts off instantly. i mean WTF does anyone have a solution to this problem.
