Hey
I have a GTX 660 and I installed it into my new computer.
When I play games without putting my core and memory clock to "-250" or higher, my display driver crashes and freezes my PC.
It seems to be a problem with my clock speeds, so I just want to ask
is it likely for my graphics card to be faulty? or something else.

Well not good news
i removed all nvidia drives using that software
i run assetto corsa and as soon as i start the "drive"

"Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

in event viewer.

and i have 8.1

Ok. It was working normally after uninstalling and reinstalling until you ran the game though right?

Run an SFC/Scannow to see if there is a system problem:

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/3047-sfc-scannow-command-run-windows-8-a.html

And run both memtest86 and seatools for windows to see if anything is going on with the hard drives. In Seatools run the short DST and the long generic. Let me know the results of all these.

My computer is usually fine before I start playing a game anyway which is strange.
but i reinstalled drivers, uninstalled afterburner.. i started then playing assetto corsa for a whole 5 minutes, and then display driver nvlddm error message.

ive ran memtest saturday morning and before, and i got no errors back
ill also try seatools now and let you know. btw i ran memtest for ram?

Okay I've read and tried following them instructions but It just doesn't make sense, plus command prompt doesnt seem to be working for it.
My command prompt doesnt even show which drive has Windows 8.1 on, but i know that its my ssd 250gb, it just shows two of my drives and 1 disk drive.

also i just typed the command sfc etc into cmd and the scan is running now.
Also seatools: both hard drives short dst: = pass.
im doing the long generic now.

EDIT: okay it says windows did not find any integrity vilations? is that what you are looking for

Right okay then I'll contact EVGA support tomorrow.
Apparently EVGA products come with at least 3 years but I'm not sure, I shall give it a try anyway.
Also darkbreeze, abiding by your honest opinion and own knowledge
Can you please tell me what *YOU* think this issue could be.

My Motherboard, GPU, PSU, HDD, OS, RAM?

I think it's either the card or a driver issue. Did you try resetting the BIOS to optimal defaults? You should not have to manually change the default clock speed of the card so I think it was either faulty to start with or if you overclocked it with afterburner you may have burned it out.

I'll try setting bios to optimal defaults and I have never overclocked my GPU. Also is there way of resetting bios in bios? or have i got to take out the battery on the MOBO.
Just odd that when I "underclock" my settings my GPU becomes stable for a specific amount of time, 20/50 minutes. but eventually the driver will stop responding.

In the bios there will be an option to reset to "default" or "optimal" or "default optimal" settings by pressing a specific key which it should tell you on the main screen.

I would also make sure you have the most recent BIOS version for your motherboard. Compare your BIOS version to the most recent one on the website for your model.

Okay ill reset bios
but ill chgeck my bios version but im scared about updating it (IF i have to) because it can be really risky apparently
and if someones goes wrong my motherboard is broken.

That's your call. I would never own a rig that I didn't keep the BIOS updated on, and I own five, and also do PC service as a side business, unless there was a BIOS version known to cause more problems than it solves. It won't hurt to have the most recent BIOS and could very well help. However, if you've had any issues with the system freezing due to this card at other times when you're NOT playing games, then don't do it. Otherwise, it should be fine. I would not use the windows utility to update. I'd use the flash usb method.

Obviously it's your call and if you want other opinions I'm sure somebody will be along to offer theirs so it's your choice how to proceed. Certainly I don't want you to brick your rig but it's pretty unlikely that will happen unless you do something wrong or there is already a serious issue with the motherboard, cpu or ram. You might want to remove you GPU and run on the integrated graphics from the motherboard while you do the update just to make sure the card doesn't create any problems during the flash.

Oh right I see okay well it only happens when I play games
and im not the best at hardware atm as you can tell
so just what ive heard from updating etc i am quite cautious.
what ill do today is call evga support and talk to them about rma and i might even take out my GPU as i cant properly play games with it anyway. hopefully if it IS my GPU causing this due to the memory and core clocks when i get a new gpu i may fix?
because it seems very much like a gpu issue due to the fact when i lower the mrmoy clocks etc so.. strange.
