I am a college student so mostly need a laptop for research, MS office, using net and watching movies (extensively). I'm into casual gaming but can live without it.

Earlier I used Vaio VPCEB36FB, I had no problem with it for 4 years until it went dead. I loved it for multimedia.

Currently, I selected ASUS S56CA, Lenovo G50 59413719 and ASUS X550LD.

Should I go for a dedicated graphic card? And is there a lot of difference between i3 and i5? Any other options in this price range?

Solution
That's around £400 so you can get the Lenovo Flex 14". It's got an ok screen but it's portable, light and can handle all the work you're saying you're doing. The i3 in most cases is fine as long as it's a Haswell i3. The i5 is capable of more intensive tasks such as light photo/video editing, light gaming etc. Browse the web and get something thin and light, battery life if you're doing a lot of work on the go.

Out of the ones in the list, I would go with the aus x55ld. For your tasks you don't really need a discrete gpu unless you are planning for video editing which I am assuming you are not.

As for the difference between the i3 and i5, there really is no difference that you will notice. Just make sure that it is a haswell rather than ivey bridge. The haswell save more battery and have better cooling than their previous cpus.
