I'm in the UK (saying that because product availability can differ) and not sure which brand of external hdd to go for. i understand that brand doesn't always matter it's more about the drive itself, but I really do think the brand matters to a extent. I had Seagate, Western Digital. Only reason i ask is because Seagate is cheaper but i've heard about failures, WD is more expensive, but more reliable (apparently)? Thanks to anyone who gives advice. i also realise this site is usually for PC's, but any help is really appreciated

Hello, Naicheervan Abbas!

Whatever you decide to go with, you've got the most important part covered - for Xbox One external storage support needs to be USB 3.0 compatible and above 256 GB capacity. All the possibilities you've listed have those.
The most important thing you need to do after you have it is to format it in exFAT before you use it in Xbox. Otherwise, your console won't be able to recognize it.
However, I personally would go with the most reliable one or search the Net for more opinions for sure. Maybe check in with the Xbox forum as well and see what users there say about their external storage.
As a WD representative, I can tell you that a lot of users choose WD My Passport Ultra for their consoles (Xbox, PS), but I...

Hope this helped.

Sorry for this but i haven't bought an external storage before. how do you format into exFAT? Usually people who buy external storage for an Xbox one just plug it in and the xbox formats it and off they go :p So if you could help me on how to do that, just in case, i'd really appreciate it! thanks though!

Yes, I'm sorry, actually you can do it both ways - through Xbox or a computer.
What I wanted to emphasize on is that the format (file system) needs to be in exFAT.
Here are the guidelines how to do it:
Through Xbox: http://www.wikihow.com/Format-a-Hard-Drive-for-Use-With-Xbox-360
Through a PC: http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/291

Hope this helped. :)

Thank you those links will do great! I just bought the 3tb WD elements just a few minutes ago, so thanks for your help. Hopefully it'll do great. I just hope I don't budge it while it's running or I'm out of £80!

I'm glad I was able to help you out!
Congrats on your new WD Elements! Better don't budge it! Though you have the warranty, I really hope you won't be needing it! :)
Happy gaming and good luck with everything! :bounce:
