Hi there,

a few weeks ago I requested a 3D (mostly)/gaming PC build from start (~1000 €) and I got the following:

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1230 V3 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: ASRock B85 Anniversary ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive *(120 > 250 GB)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 770 2GB DirectCU II Video Card
Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/RSBS DVD/CD Writer
Case with power supply: LC-power 3001B Executor Mini ATX 600W *

* - my own modifications

I have been thinking of adding a few more euros to the budget and upgrading the graphics card and RAM (at least 16 GB). None of these parts have been ordered yet and I am still open for suggestions. I am willing to spend additional 100 - 200 € on graphics card and RAM.

What are you suggestions? Thank you for your time!

Regards,
blazh

Ok, for 3D modeling 8+GB ram is justified, get 16 then. Also for this purpose you may be better off with a quadro card rather than a geforce, but I'm that sure, I would dig around some more about it if I were you.

I would go for the gtx 970 for sure, I would also get a better power supply as that one I have never heard of and therefore is unlikely to be a good quality one- something like a seasonic, XFX or Antec one of the same wattage would be fine.

Hi there,

The gtx 970 gives you the best bang for your buck right now, with great performance.

As for the power supply you should buy one of the tier 1 or 2 psu's listed in this post:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1925006/power-supply-tiered-list.html

Other than that it seem alright, you can buy 16 GB ram but in gaming 8 is more than enough, however for video editing or things like that you may need more.

Thank you for your replies! Would you say getting another G.Skill sniper RAM (2x 4GB) is an ok move considering motherboard has 4 RAM slots, or should I get 2x 8GB or 16 GB?

Thanks for your help!

Edit: Forgot to mention my previous case and PSU were BitFenix Comrade ATX and XFX 550W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply. Is 550 W enough?

You still did not state what will you use the pc for. More than 8 GB ram for gaming is a waste of money, 32 GB is overkill for basically anything. So decide what are you going to do with the pc and purchase memory according to that.

Sorry, I mentioned its purpose in the post a few weeks ago when I asked for the build. I intend to use it in 3D modeling. One of the members also suggested Xeon cpu as hyperthreading helps with renders. I thought I'd need more RAM for modeling rather than gaming (casual gamer, nothing high-end). So I think upgrading RAM isn't a bad idea (8 GB+).
