In windows 7 I go to all programs/computer/hard drive it recognizes only 1 drive, a 250 gb ssd. there is another drive WD 1 tb . I am assuming that you need to enter the bios and look for a wrong setting, or go into windows and reset something.
What do you think? Thanks

Click Start, enter "compmgmt.msc /s" in the search field and hit enter. Computer Management conol will start. Goto Disk Management and look for your disk. Do you see it there? What does the text say?

Is this a brand new empty HDD? If so, there is a process called "Initialize the Disk" or "Create a New Simple Volume" (depends on which Windows you have) to prepare the new unit for use. For details on how to do this using Windows' built-in utility Disk Management, see WyomingKnott's sticky in the Storage forum here:

Pay special attention to his Step 5.

I typed in compmgmt, entered it then got a pop up box saying the disk drive was not initialized.Went thru steps to initialize. compmgmt box showed it was online. Second partition of box showed it was unallocated.Hit restart.
Click on all programs/computer/hard disk drive, strill no showing of 2nd hard drive. Do I need a total shut down? Your thoughts?
