I was wondering if it is wise to buy an external hard disk of 1.5 TB with a 3.5" drive without an external power. Is it better to buy the above mentioned hard disk with external power?

Thank you in advance.

It really depends on what you want to use the drive for as @Conrad Pinto already mentioned.
