I have my Acer Travelmate 8472 for quite some time. Recently i would sometimes not be able to make a wireless/wired connection, a restart would solve it. This would not happen more then once a day. This week it just completely stopped getting connections wired or wireless.

I'm not shure but i think my network / wifi card might be broken.

Some more details first.
After my wifi stopped working i tried the things that have been recommended to other people on this site: reinstall drivers, restart networks/routers and check if the wifi was not turned off with a button :D.

So next i just reinstalled Windows and tried it with a clean build. reinstalled all the drivers and still no luck.

When I tried to make a connection to "anything" it would say that the network adapter did not have the right drivers ( which i definatly reinstalled correctly). I dont recall where but it said that there was no hardware that could connect to wifi or ethernet.

I opened up my Travelmate and found out that i dont have an onboard network card (yay). Its a Intel Centrino 662ANHMW ADVANCED-N 6200.

I hope i have provided enough info, if you have any questions please ask.

Thanks in advance

Unless you have a hardware issue, you may be using the wrong drivers. Do a BIOS update, also install the chipset driver if you did not, and make sure you have the right Windows version and also 32 or 64 bit selected for the driver download. If the BIOS and chipset along with double checking the drivers did not help, you may as well get a USB WiFi card to use. They are cheap and will get you connected.

Thanks for the reply,

The lan and w-lan both show up as not having a driver installed. (I have added a picture) I did install the drivers straight from the Acer site. The same drivers have worked in the past. Since i did a clean install and used the drivers that worked before this should not be the problem.

You are right both the Ethernet and the Wifi are not working. I am currently using the same connection/wire to access the internet and i used the Wifi just a second ago with my phone. Both are working just fine.

Thanks in advance,

Yeah i installed the exact same drivers i used before, when it was working, i had them on a usb stick still. I also redownloaded the same ones to make shure they were not corrupted in any way. The BIOS does not have an update available.

I was just wondering is there an easy way to check if hardware is broken?

Since i dont have onboard Wifi i could just get a replacement part for roughly 10 euro's.

Thanks in advance,

The Centrino chip does has onboard WiFi, but a replacement external one would take care of the issue of no connectivity. Since you re-installed Windows, but it also did not work before that, and the drivers you used did not work this time, unless you installed the wrong version of Windows this time (32 vs 64 bit), it points to the hardware being bad.
