Is it safe to remove the plastic shroud off from a non-reference graphic card?

Hi there,

Recently I purchased EVGA GTS 450 1GB GDDR5 and when I was just about to insert in the slot, I noticed the heatsink blocking it from one end, I was stumped at that time but then i figured out after some research on the internet that i can safely remove the fan and the shroud and then re-screw the fan without any hassle which I did pretty easily and the card also inserted properly now.
But the only thing that worries me is the temp, during idle it stays under 60 degrees and sometimes under 40 as well depending on the ambient temps and under load (playing games like Cryiss 3, Ghosts, BF3) it reaches to 78 degrees MAX, so are these temps safe for this particular GPU or not?

Thanks in advance :)
