Hi All,

So I have a PNY USB 3.0 USB drive, when I inserted it into my Alienware M17X R4 (H77 Chipset) it come up "USB not recognized" so I asked a friend to try it in his Mac and it worked absolutely fine, I then tried it on a desktop PC and it worked fine as well. So it was clearly an issue with this Alienware.

As I started to look into it some people advised going into Device Manager and uninstalling all USB Hubs and controllers so I did until nothing was left. I rebooted and all drivers installed again but still didn't work. I then started looking into the "Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host controller" but after downloading the newest
driver it states my system did not meet the minimum requirements (I'm assuming this may be Alienware ensuring only their drivers can be installed)

But after tinkering non of my USB devices are now working, they don't even detect int he device manager, as though the controller has been disabled. I've tried uninstalling every USB in device manager so they install again but it's still the same. Furthermore I was installing the chipset drivers but they make no difference.

So does anyone have a solution to why no USB's are detecting and why the USB 3.0 drive never did work originally?

Try running a live Knoppix cd or USB in one of the USB 2.0 ports. Then check if the 3.0 ports are working. If they still don't work, it's almost certainly bad hardware. If it does work in Knoppix then try updating all your motherboard drivers.
