I want to upgrade memory from the current 4GB.
I bought this PC in late 2011, and here are the specs:

  • XPS Desktop 8300 Intel® Core™ i3-2120 Processor (3.30GHz, 3MB)
    Intel® Core™ i3-2120 Processor (3.30GHz, 3MB)
    4096MB Dual Channel DDR3 1333MHz [2x2048] Memory
The sales person in chat sent me to this page:
http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/category.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=bsd&cs=ukbsdt1&category_id=4325&mfgpid=2882640&chassisid=-1&stype=1&Tab=Parts

which seems to be the right page,
however I'm having trouble remembering how many slots are available, and how many units can fit into each slot.
At the top of the page it says that the max memory is 16GB. That would be great if it was, but for some reason I had it in my head that the max was 8GB...
I also have a feeling that it's only units of 2048 that will fit - again I could be wrong about this... but obviously I'd like to buy 4 or 8 if these would fit and it would save money.

Could someone here confirm what the max memory and slots are for this machine, according to specs I posted above?

I've looked in device manager and sysinfo on Windows but this was no help.

(I also tried actually calling Dell sales to speak to someone but the robot keeps just hanging up on my call!)

Max is 16GB and has 4 slots as mentioned in the above link. The existing memory might either be a 4GB or a pair of 2GB's. You will have to physically check it. Click here for what type of memory you need. Try Crucial, Kington, Newegg etc.

Thanks to both of you for your replies, sorry for delay in getting back. This morning purchased a single 8GB stick to add to the 4, assured by the Dell sales that it will work in this machine. I'm not really a hardware person so would only open the machine up if I have to - which I will next week when the memory arrives...
