Personal files deleted after a Windows Update

So, like the title said, I've lost all my personal files after doing a Windows update and restarting my system. Everything was fine until I restarted it, then after the reboot I noticed that my C: drive got wiped. Not fully wiped just had the stuff I had laying around my Documents and Desktop folders removed. The installed applications were still there although I can no longer have access to my files, I can still search the drives for the file names and eventually find them in a TEMP folder but I can't open any. (See screenshot)

What I also noticed is that a bubble appears once I turn the machine on saying something like 'You didn't start the PC correctly and that most stuff you're going to do won't be saved.'

Machine:
HP Pavilion dv5 Notebook PC
Operating System:
Windows Vista SP1 64x

Try rebooting a few times. We see this frequently on our domain at work and most often a few reboots eventually gets rid of the issue. It's possible however that your local profile has become corrupted and you'll need to create a new administrator account.

Create a new admin account, log out of your current temp profile/session and log in to the new administrator you create. You should be able to then go to C:/Users/{corrupted profile} and start pulling your files to the new user profile.

It sucks, but user profiles don't always survive forever.

I did a system restore but no luck. Here's the bubble I was referring to. (Your profile user wasn't loaded correctly! You've been logged into a temporary session. Any modifications will be lost once you close this session..)

Alright, made the new admin account but thing is I can't even find them so I logged back into the old user and did a quick search and found the files in 'C:\users\{corrupted profile}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent' but they're still showing as shortcuts.

Worst case is they're gone so do you know of any good recovery software I can use to get them back?
I had once a very nice lightweight software that recovered every single file I've lost, althought I forgot the name of it, I remember it did the job through CMD commands.

Recuva will likely do the trick. I'll try to think of some other possibilities and get back to you if I can.

I WILL HELP YOU ALL!!!

2 days ago my windows 10 automatically updated but when i turned on my pc the first thing i realized was that my desktop had gone blank with just a few files hanging here and there. at first i tried restoring them but i wasnt able was happy my desktop was clean but i soon came to realize that i was missing a whole collection of psy music that i have been collecting for 2 years! and i use them to mix my tracks it was the most horrible feeling ever after researching and trying every possible thing ive found and nothing was working until ive gone desperate and downloaded Recuva it starting searching but was extremely slow. I was on the verge of suicide when i tried my last chances to download EaseUS and within second it located while the other program was running and all the folders that have disappeared were it was the happiest moment until i hit the recovery button and it asked for an activation code or to buy the effin product that costed 70$!! my files were there and i couldnt get them! so i closed everything and went to recycle bin and there were allll the missing files! BOOM restored the file and now dancing:D:D

LONG STORY SHORT!!
dont freak out.. just check recycle bin and there they are..
