Pretty simple really, I'm playing games on triple monitors at 5760x1080 and am interested in going to a single 4k monitor, I will be mostly gaming but also watching some 4k films (If I can find a good way to source them)

Has anybody used both of these setups and have a preference?

My PC will be able to handle it so there should be no problem there.

I love my triple monitors. I like the immersion I get over one higher res screen. Plus, its great for work which I also do on my PC. You can get three 23" LCDs for cheaper than any 4k screen, which isn't really ready for gaming anyway. Personally, I am waiting til I can get 3x 4k 60hz screens (and hardware that can run that) to upgrade.

That's what I was also gona say, you might want to wait until you can get 3 4k monitors.

I can't wait for a 4k IPS monitor, because ever since I've gotten my 1080P IPS screen everything looks so much sharper than any TN panel.

I'd very much prefer a single 4K if my PC could run it.

I find surround monitors silly because it takes so much desk space and you hardly need all the screen space.

Unless you have thin bezel monitors and run them in PPP layout: http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT5v8lHkmn41HWLhKkcSGX7d8SuLCWwCqc64NO3n4sM4B2fNNMzmg

With 4K the pixel density is so high and from further viewing distance, that you don't need antialiasing for games at all.

Also single monitor is much simpler to run.

Yes, a single monitor certainly has its place, but I use slim bezel LCDs and really never notice them, gaming or otherwise. I must say I have run multiple monitors for a loooong time and find a single far to hard to multitask on now. Windows seems to run better at this time on surround/eyefinity than it does on 4k anyway.

I'm with you, I've been using 2 monitors for years now and going to 1 makes doing stuff weirder and harder.

Having 3 monitors for browsing is amazing, they are good for gaming but hard work to get working for a lot of games.

Has anybody had any hands on experience with running 4k? Would love to try Far Cry 3 with it.

Thanks for the answers.

You can also get whatever your screensize is now that big an 4k monitor and do a 4k and 2 1080's
You can switch between them.
