Hello, how are you?
I have a small doubt...
I currently have my system setup.
My hard drive is a 500gb SSD.
If I upgrade my system and want to clean install Windows, how can I reset the SSD to factory performance?
Is it just a matter of formatting with windows setup and install?
Or should something be done before?

Thanks.
Cheers!

You can download Samsung Magician here: http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/samsungssd/downloads.html
It's in the second section. Download, install and run it.

When you've started Magician there's a tab Secure Erase on the left.
Insert either a USB stick or an empty CD or DVD and select either 'Create a bootable USB drive' or 'Create a bootable CD/DVD', depending on if you're using a USB stick or a CD/DVD.
Select the right stick/CD/DVD by clicking Browse and selecting the right drive.
Then click Start and wait for it to finish.

Restart the system and boot from the USB stick/CD/DVD.
The program will ask you to confirm that you know what you're doing etc (I think, it's been a while), just type Y and press enter.
Then...

You can just format and reinstall, but I wouldn't recommend that with a SSD.
A SSD's performance degrades over time, but can be 'reset' by performing a Secure Erase.

If you have a Samsung SSD you can use Samsung Magician to do a Secure Erase, otherwise you can use other software, like Parted Magic (which isn't free anymore but the old free versions are still out there and will do the job). Just make a bootable drive with the software, boot from it, and Secure Erase.

Some BIOSes support Secure Erase as well. That's the easiest way to do it, but many if not most mobo's don't have this feature.

Hello... There is firmware/software upgrades for SSD... the small software APPS will look at your drive and allow it to be install... If one is available for it. They can be found on the makers website.
I do this first before using a Clean install of Windows OS on it..

Hello, thank you for your reply.
Yes, it is a Samsung SSD.
Being the system drive and only drive on the computer, how can I use magic software to secure erase?

Thanks.
Cheers!

Then navigate to the drive you want to erase, press enter, confirm again, wait a few seconds/minutes and that's it, you're done and ready to do a fresh install.
