Hey everyone,

I just assembled my new PC with an ASUS Maximus VII Gene motherboard and an INTEL i7 4790k. When I start the system i get an BIOS error-message that my CPU Core Voltage is too high.

I checked the BIOS hardware monitor and it says that Core 0 is running on between 2.7 and 2.9 V, while all three other cores are running on (normal) 1.055 V.

It's quiet obvious that something isn't correct, but my question is, is it the CPU or the motherboard?

The CPU temperature stays around 37°C, what seems normal. If one core would really run on 2.9 V, the temperature should be higher, shouldn't it? So it's more likely a broken motherboard than a broken CPU?

Thank you!

Yikes, a short in the CPU maybe? (I've only had that happen once to an old AMD Athlon T-Bird, ran fine, just had a habit of making the 12V on the powersupply explode, and the motherboard ATX connector all melty)

Try re-seating it. Could just be a bad sensor.

Other options would be buying more parts or starting the RMA on one of them.
