I have been looking at the gtx 970's power requirements, and im confused as to why it needs 2 6 pin connectors. Considering it only draws 145 watts which the motherboard and a single 6 pin can supply. The answer is probably quite obvious but i would like to know out of curiosity.

Solution
Same PCB as the GTX980, which takes 185W.

PCIe 16x slot = 75W
PCIe 6-pin connector = 75W
PCIe 8-pin connector = 150W

These are all underrated of course, but that is the rule of thumb. Actual measurements show the GTX970 spiking closer to 300W draw at stock voltages. So 225W makes more sense.
