I've downloaded and burnt the iso file for ubunto onto my flash drive. But can I boot my pc from this flash drive, even if there's other files on it? (pictures and documents)

Solution

If they are there, you're probably OK.

Try it and see what happens.

If you used pendrive linux, then it will probably work. But unless you were very, very careful, the stuff that existed on there is probably gone.

Try it and see what happens.

First go into your BIOS and make sure that your default boot drive is "USB DISK DRIVE" (or equivalent). Then copy the contents of the ISO to a clean USB drive. If it works you're done.

I just checked my usb right now and all my files not related to the os are there and still accessible. So theyre fine? And they wont be wiped out when i boot from the os now?

Yes its is OK to have other files on the drive.

Pen drive Linux just copies the contents of the iso to the flash drive and installs syslinux to the flash drive MBR. The syslinux on MBR points to the files necessary to boot Linux. Won't hurt to have other stuff on there.
