My motherboard is a MSI Z97 PC MATE ATX LGA1150 and I was wondering if I would need speakers or if my motherboard would take care of the sound.

Motherboards don't have any speakers built in. You will need speakers in order to hear your games. The only other option to buying speakers would be buying headphones, or a monitor that has speakers built in.
