Hi All,

Before i start i apologize if this is in the wrong section, i am new to this forum :).

Over the last 2 months i have had some problems with my desktop and right now it's a dead weight.

The first problem started 2 months back after i came back from a 1 month trip. When i started my pc it would boot up make a funny sound and restart without anything ever appearing on my screen. I took out the parts one by one and tested and identified that it was the ram. Feeling lucky all i did was move the 4x 4gb ram pieces within the 4 slots and the pc detected all 4 sticks. I even did a memtest for the whole night and there zero errors.

About 3 weeks later, after shutting down my computer, it refused to power up at all. I switch power sockets and it booted up fine.

Yesterday, after shutting down, 1 hour later it refused to boot up. This time even after switching power sockets, cables and even unplugging components, nothing happened. The desktop is dead no lights no power nothing.

Before i start replacing/repairing i just wanted the advice of everybody here. Is this a power supply issue, or can these symptoms be caused by other faulty parts. Also could the powersupply have been damaged because of faulty parts?. *PC not overclocked in anyway.

Thank you for your time, i really appreciate it!!

My pc specs :

i5-3570k
GSkill 4x4GB ram
ati XFX 7970 gpu
asrock extreme 4 mobo
xfx 750w semi modular psu
1x wireless card

Solution
It may be power supply or mobo. Test the power supply.. Take it an expert or if you are up for it buy a decent power supply tester. If it tests good then look at the mobo.

My money is on the power supply, but the RAM issue might point to the motherboard. Taking it to an expert would help but in the end one of those 2 items needs replacing and it would be much cheaper to actually buy and replace the faulty part yourself
