Hi everyone! As you know the new iMac 5K came out sometime this year, and I wanted to know if it was worth it. Now basically, I am getting the most upgraded one I can possibly get (i7 4790K, R9 M295X, 16GB 1600Mhz RAM, 3 TB Fusion Drive). I just recently bought my PS4 a few days ago, and I already like it more than my current gaming PC. Basically, I hear Macs are beautiful work stations, and are very good with video editing. I need to make YouTube videos, and make them quickly so I can get one out at least everyday (hence the 3 TB). I will be recording from my PS4 with an Elgato, and I was wondering if Final Cut Pro X is better than something like sony vegas, and I also wanted to know if this Mac will be able to render videos fast, with no playback lag. I have seen people edit in 4K with this Mac, and have gotten no playback lag through effects or transitions, but I wanted to know if this was true. I also wanted to do a little gaming on the side, such as Minecraft and ohter small games. And one last thing, can I hook my blackwidow ultimate and deathadder up to the Mac and have them work? And the VERY last question is 16 GB RAM good enough for video editing?

I dont think the Razer stuff will work on Mac because of the Razer Synapse seems to be Windows only, as for the elgato thing, I think you should be able to get software for it from their site.

Overall, for its price and what it has in it. I think they 27" 5K iMac is a good buy. If you are upgrading the upgrading the CPU and the GPU, you shouldnt have any issues with rendering or converting.

I seriously think the 5K iMac is a waste of money compared to what you can get with a DIY system. With the iMac you're paying for a fancy screen with a half-assed laptop configuration that can't be upgraded even slightly. For $4,000 you can get a far more powerful DIY system with a 4K monitor for $2,000 less and you won't be missing anything in terms of monitor, and you won't be getting rid of your system after a year because it can't be upgraded.
