Performance-wise the 8350 is faster especially on multithreaded programs that are optimized for 8 cores, but the AM3+ socket has limited upgrade options so if you plan to upgrade get the i5.
Barely, assuming the 2500k is at stock clocks. The 2500k is faster most of the time.
Yep that's pretty much the case most of the time, and it's better for the OP to choose the i5 since AM3+ is a dead end socket with no upgrades in the near future.
Same goes for the 2500k as its also on a dead end socket.
Again though, I use both daily, the 2500k is faster most of the time, and in the few cases where the 8350 is faster the 2500k isnt far behind - whereas in programs/games that are more lightly threaded the 2500k is a lot faster.
I do like the 8350, and its great on my system where I do lots of mutlithreaded applications and virtual machines, but for a gaming system (like the OP is asking about), the 2500k would be my choice 100%.
