Hi, I'm having a mind blank, I have been stuck on this question for awhile now and getting nowhere, Can someone please help and explain how you got the answers.

Thanks

Here it is:

You are administrator of large company you have been given an IP Address 192.168.10.0. There are 8 main departments that each requires their own subnet answer the following question.

What is the Subnet mask?
How many available Subnets are there?
How many available hosts are there?
What is the first subnet?
What is the 3rd subnet?
What is the broadcast address of the first subnet?
What is the broadcast address of the 3rd subnet?

Solution
Homework questions I see. There are samples in every networking textbook there is that explain almost this exact question.

I will give you the answer I suspect your instructor does not really want but it is correct. Be sure to ask WHY this answer is also correct and why the question can not have a single correct answer when it is asked the way it is. The concept of "classfull" is completely outdated.

Solution
The reason it is assumed as a homework question by everyone is this questions is almost word for word from many networking books. Almost every book there is explains subnets and you can only learn it by practicing this. This is very basic stuff so I guess it is just finding a book you like how is written the best.

The question seems to be missing a netmask for the IP address. How many IP addresses are you provided with to start?

In any case, you can always use a vlsm calculator, but the best thing to do would be to try most basic subnetting questions and learn to actually subnet. The question looks like homework. At least provide us with how far you have gone in the problem.

I hope he turned in the answer I provided blindly. This is the typical all I want is the answer and I could care less why it is correct. Why he did not come back and mention what you did about the missing mask on the main network even after I gave him a clue pretty much shows he does not really care.
