New Power Supply: Sentey® Power Supply 725w Purchased and EXPLODED (Loud Sparks) potential damage to other parts http://www.amazon.com/Xpp725-ps-Crossfire-Certifications-Efficiency-Protection/dp/B00JEJZ1MA/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

I learned my lesson not to skimp out $$$ on PSU and am looking for a safe PSU for the listed components above for gaming sessions (World of Warcraft mainly) I'm looking for something safe and bronze/iron/gold 80 plus certified but need to make sure it doesn't blow up in my face and nearly kill me.

Zero overclocking, just trying to find a SAFE PSU replacement!

Please Help!

Solution
Well, for PSU, stick with SeaSonic/ Antec/ XFX/ EVGA. I'd go for XFX 550W or SeaSonic (or Antec) 520W, more than fine for the rig. XFX Black if you want Gold efficiency. All are good quality and will never blow up.

As I have learnt the hard way, NEVER cheap out on a PSU. Go for something that is trusted for example Coolermaster, Corsair, Antec or EVGA. I've heard recently that XFX are a good brand too however I've never used an XFX power supply!

If your rig is damaged please post in the thread and see what the best options are to you!

If i were to overclock my graphics card + processor would I require a better PSU?

what could have caused my newer power supply to blow up? low quality? it was brand new and 725W! and in less than 7-hours it blew up!

Thanks for the answers so far, very enlightening for someone like me who knows little about computers.

I also run many other games like skyrim and bioshock infinite on medium/high and programs like maya-3D

What causes a power supply to shoot out sparks? is it only the power supplies fault or could it be another component in the computer causing the PSU to shoot out the sparks.

If you put your parts into PC part picker (http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/) then it says an estimated wattage. I'd allow around 50 watts for overclocking and comfort too as that won't be too high to cause inefficiency! But that's coming from a PSU noob (me) :)

Just to be 100% safe - would this be sufficient?
http://www.amazon.com/XFX-Wired-Bronze-Power-Supply/dp/B004RJ8EKI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1413879277&sr=1-1&keywords=XFX+550W

What is the difference between a bronze certified PSU vs a gold certified? cause all I see is a $20 price difference and the top link is looking more pleasing to my eyes. Would it be safer to go gold? I'm terrified of experiencing another PSU blowing up in my face.

Looking for confirmation on my two selections

Imho, get the Seasonic S12 620w so you can have some headroom for overclocking or the equivalent XFX/EVGA/CoolerMaster( VS and V series ). Also @-HH- it's not about the brand it's about the OEM and reviews and how good they are actually built inside.

Or get a Corsair TX 650w if they still sell. Whatever you do, don't get Corsair VS/CX/CS power supplies, very mediocre, hell they are straight up bad for the money.

The ones you got are good no problem. Also check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/80_Plus for info about Bronze and up.

The difference is basically how much more Watts are wasted and dissipated as heat. Iff you have a 500W PSU and it needs to get like ( pulling out of my ass ) 600W from the wall to give you that 500, a Bronze would need less from the wall and so on. In 2014, to me, Bronze is pretty basic now. I would get a Gold one if I were you. XFX is good and I would HIGHLY recommend Seasonic G series, perfect PSU basically.

As I already said, don't get ( and @HH dont recommend ) CX power supplies, cheaply built with chineese capacitors with mediocre soldering. Corsair's consumer grade PSU's are all pretty bad in terms of build quality. Hell even their RM series are pretty bad. I would only get AX/HX( and i versions ) from them.

tbh it depends on the build too and what you're squeezing from the powersupply too and how you stress it. A cooler master alternitive may be better such as a CoolerMaster V650

letting him to the conclusion lightly?;)

The main thing you really want is 100% Japanese capacitors. Something I neglected to see when I looked at the corsair PSU.

Yes usually sparkly PSU's are self-induced due to shoddy internal components.
I had to find out the hard way.
Used to have an unknown brand, (not even listed in the tier list).
When i upgraded to one with more watts, i decided to stick with the brand without researching further; the damn thing spontaneously combusted almost straight out of the box.
