Hey,

What are the best heaphones in your opinion for that budget. I prefer wired over wireless, and i'm completely fine with closed or open. (in fact i think i'd prefer to try open for once, since its better for gaming apparantly).

I don't need a microphone attached to it, i have a spare microphone i can use, i'd rather every dollar of the purchase go to the sound experience instead of re-buying a microphone.

Thanks!

If you want a headset Roccat Kave 5.1 XTD's any day of the week (£135, not sure on dollars.) but for headphones only. Audio Technica ATH-M50's (£100) are what I have and they sound amazing for music. Either way you're saving £30 ish but sacrificing a good microphone and 5.1 sound. You're also sacrificing an audio hub so to speak as the XTD 5.1's have a control unit to place speakers into and that can be upto a 5.1 system with the various jacks!

You have a soundcard?, if no what mobo do you have?
Do you plan to use for gamming, to listen music, films, all of them?

For example for music and with a proper soundcard i would recomend the AKG550 (closed) or sennheiser 598 (open).

For gamming but with only decent sound and very good positional awareness a Roccat Knave 5.1 if you have a sound card or the XTD version if you havent.

The Maximus have the SupremeFX sounchip, is a decent one that get good results and have a good range of impeance for headphones (reach 150 i think). Then i will try to choose a high impedance analogic headset with a dinamic range that fits your taste, do you like more bass or clear mids/highs, etc..

Do you play many FPS games where you NEED 5.1?

unfortunately they cost $310 AUD here which is out of my budget, although i can simply look at getting them down the track rather than immediately, i'm not in a do or die rush. I can also look into overseas prices, might be i can find one with shipping that's inside my budget.

-hh- i'm a pretty casual gamer when it comes to FPS games. i play counter strike the most often but just casually, having 5.1 sound isn't something that would give me THE SLIGHT EDGE THAT ALLOWS ME TO DEFEAT THE COMPETITION or anything, but i'm mostly looking for a good headset that sounds really nice, is good for gaming etc. that being said the XTD 5.1 kaves are out of my budget too due to australia being australia.

With your soundcard you could use the Knave 5.1 (without the XTD) that are less than half of the XTD and the main diference is that didn't have his own soundcard.

But i would say that both Knave are mainly only for gamming having a wonderfull positional sound but only with mid quality, and at least the 5.1 is very prone to output rate needing at least 192@24 outputs to get a nice sound (and not a lot of souncards give that output in all channels)

what is your opinion on the AD700 from Audio Technica? theres one with a decent price nearby me ($129 AUD). otherwise i'll probably get the knave 5.1 wihout the soundcard for budget reasons

Then I suggest the ATH-M50's as they're a very good headphone. The only other alternatives I can think of are the Logitech G430's and the HyperX Cloud! I'm not a Headphone audiophile but I know they're both headsets with versatility and usability for you.

I haven't one myself but they have very good reviews and seems to be very good. That could be a great choice if they are within your budget (here they are almost at the same price range, but its curious that the best offers are shipped from Japan, seems that you could get a nice price for those in australia).

The Knave are not bad speakers at all but they are not hi-fi headphones, for sound quality i will allways choose the AD700.

While i could not talk about the G430 but i had a more expensive G35 and find very inferior to the Knave (althought it's true that the G35 had his own soundcard and the Knave where connected to a Asus Phoebus), anyway i will try to avoid Logitech, have decent keyboards and gamming mouse but didnt like their headphones.

To be Honest though it's what he has the budget for and I know that Logitech are a largely respected brand by the gaming community with stellar quality in their products.
